UC Berkeley is looking for a service-oriented Research Data Management (RDM) Program Manager whose principal role will be to ensure the effective design and coordination of RDM issues and services. The RDM Program Manager will be the lead position responsible for administering the RDM program and services for the campus. S/he will be a campus resource on local, national and international RDM developments, overseeing the program and its services to academic departments and service units. The RDM Program Manager will work closely with and lead a multi-departmental team and will be responsible for providing leadership and collaborative coordination to ensure the success of this university-wide program.
The UC Berkeley Library is an internationally renowned research and teaching facility at one of the nation's premier public universities. In a highly diverse and intellectually rich environment, Berkeley serves a campus community of 25,500 undergraduate students, 10,300 graduate students, and a faculty of 1,500. This position works primarily with campus IT (Research IT) and the University Library. Research IT is a unit within Information Services and Technology (IST) with a operational focus on research technology. The Library comprises 20 campus libraries - including the Doe/Moffitt Libraries, the Bancroft Library, the C. V. Starr East Asian Library and subject specialty libraries. With a collection of more than 11 million volumes and a collection budget of over $15 million, the Library offers extensive collections in all formats and robust services to connect users with those collections and build their related research skills.
Co-reporting to the AUL for Digital Initiatives and Collaborative Services and Research IT’s RDM Program Director, the incumbent will lead the University’s RDM Program to disseminate and preserve scholarship produced by UC Berkeley faculty, students and researchers. S/he will work in close cooperation with campus stakeholders including, academic departments, campus administrators, campus IT service providers, library staff and the UC California Digital Library in order to develop educational materials, deploy technologies, and provide direct assistance to UC Berkeley scholars on a broad range of topics related to Research Data Management.
The RDM coordinator will work in partnership with colleagues in the Scholarly Communication Office to ensure the provision and delivery of robust and appropriately structured services. Services offered by the RDM Program include consulting, guidance documentation, and training on a wide range of data-related activities and services. Research Data Management practices and services extend across the full lifecycle of activities related to research data, from the proposal and data management plan; through collaboration, sharing, and curation; to publication, citation, preservation, discovery and reuse.
