Job Information

Job Duties: 

Work with library materials & patrons in the public service area. Work at the circulation desk assisting patrons by answering basic public service questions, checking books in/out, renewing books, and placing holds. Shelve library materials using Library of Congress Classification numbers. Shift books to alleviate congested areas. Shelf-read collections to maintain proper order. Clean/neaten the stacks and study areas.

Required Qualifications: 
  • ability to lift/reach/place heavy books on/off shelves, push heavy book trucks, and shift books for extended periods
  • ability to sit for extended periods at a computer screen
  • ability to learn specific set of procedures and perform them accurately on a routine basis
  • ability to work independently after initial training period
  • ability to speak/read English fluently and to communicate library information clearly and professionally
  • abiity to apply sound judgment in referring patrons' inquiries to staff
  • must be punctual and reliable, with attention to detail
Desired Qualifications: 
  • familiarity with Library of Congress call number system, OskiCat, and/or campus libraries
  • previous library work experience
  • customer service experience
  • availability to work intersessions, summer sessions, and/or academic breaks
Special Notes: 

Must be able to commit to working at least one full academic year.

Must be able to work shifts at both the Bioscience and Optometry Libraries.

Must be willing to sub for other student workers on occasion, schedule permitting.
