Job Information

Job Duties:

The UC Berkeley Library is not only a premier research facility, it is also a gallery space, and hub of activities. The Library hosts book talks, gallery openings, interviews, photo shoots, receptions, lectures, workshops, and more. We are looking for an events intern who will help with setting up and breaking down event spaces, AV set up, advertising, and miscellaneous duties related to event logistics. Student applicants must be available to work evenings (between 4-9pm). Some mid-day shifts are also available. The hours will be flexible and change month-to-month depending on the event schedule, but there would be a guaranteed 6 hours a month of work, with a maximum of 30. This is an ideal opportunity for a student who wishes to learn how to run both large and small events efficiently and successfully, and who is looking for evening and/or weekend work (minimal). Ability to work on Cal Day (Saturday, April 13) is highly preferred.

Required Qualifications:

The events intern must have some basic hospitality experience (i.e. comfortable meeting and greeting people). The student will be trained on Library event procedures.

Physical requirements: Must be able to set up and break down folding chairs, lift/carry up to 25 pounds, assist in moving furniture and racks of chairs.

Desired Qualifications:

We are looking for friendly self-starters who are eager to support the various Library events. Experience hosting or volunteering at events would be good. Retail or restaurant work experience is a plus because students would have a sense of the front of house/back of house nature of events.
