Job Information

Job Duties: 
  • Staff circulation desk; use Millennium library system to check out library materials to patrons and check in materials when returned
  • Answer directional and basic questions from patrons in a professional manner, in person or over the phone
  • Sort and shelve library books accurately by the Library of Congress classification system
  • Shift library books when shelves become too crowded
  • Maintain tidiness of public space (eg. clean public terminals, public tables, might need to vacuum book shelves occasionally as needed)
  • Open/close the library if assigned
  • Fill in for another student employee on occasion if schedule permits.
  • Must be able to work at least one evening shift (M-TH 5-10pm) or weekend shift per week in addtion to day shifts. Once work schedule is set for the semester, the employee must be consistent in his/her commitment
  • Perform other library tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications: 
  • Must be able to maintain a friendly, professional and helpful attitude toward library patrons at all times.
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Able to work independently and perform work following established procedures
  • Able to complete projects with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must be able to lift, reach, and place heavy books on/off shelves, push book trucks, and sit for extended periods at a time at a computer screen

Special Notes: 
  • The position will begin fall semester, and will continue into the 2017-2018 academic year. 
  • Preference given to candidtates that can work at least 3 semesters.
  • Required for Fall/Spring semesters to work during Dead Week and Finals Week (the same number of hours worked per week during the regular semester schedule). Work shifts are scheduled around paper deadlines, exams, study sessions, and other obligations.
