Job Information

Job Duties: 

Student Library Employees at the Business and Social Research libraries under the direction of the Student Supervisor are responsible for a variety of tasks. The Student Library Employee will assist in various library locations (as needed) and provides the highest level of customer service and assistance to patrons.

  • Greets patrons, answers questions and provides information related to the library in an efficient, friendly and informative manner
  • Assists in resolving patron issues and concerns, involving management when needed
  • Prepares for daily opening and closing procedures by checking in/out books, laptops and shelving books
  • Use of integrated library system, Millennium software to perform all necessary tasks
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to operate library systems
  • Attention to detail REQUIRED
  • Demonstrates punctuality and dependability
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team environment, to communicate well and conduct constructive problem resolution
  • Familiarity with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Email, Google Apps or other comparable software programs

Working Conditions

  • Must have flexible schedule.
  • This position requires availability Monday through Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, one late shift 5:00pm-10:00pm, and one weekend shift 12:00pm-8:00pm
  • Manual dexterity to operate computer and other equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Must be able to work in public environment
Desired Qualifications: 
  • Customer service experience
  • Familiarity with library and campus services and layout
  • Ability to work intersessions (Winter, Spring Break, Summer) and academic breaks
Special Notes: 
  • Occasionally, employee may be asked to fill in at other branches in the Social Sciences Division according to staffing needs. 
  • Students may be assigned to a combination of day, evening, and weekend shifts.
  • Must be able to work at least three semesters before graduation
