Job Information

Job Duties: 
  • Staff the Mathematics Statistics Library public service desk, including occasional opening and closing
  • Retrieve materials requested by patrons and search for missing items
  • Check materials in/out, renew items, place holds, etc. using Millennium Circulation
  • Answering patron questions both in person and over the phone about the use of the libraries, OskiCat, referring patrons to library staff when appropriate
  • Shelve books in Library of Congress call number order and do weekly shelf-reading to maintain proper order
  • Perform miscellaneous duties/special projects as necessary
Required Qualifications: 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Ability to apply sound judgment in referring patrons’ inquiries/problems to staff
  • Must be able to work independently and perform work following established procedures
  • Must be able to lift, reach, and place heavy books on/off shelves, push book trucks, and sit for extended periods at a time at a computer screen
Desired Qualifications: 
  • Customer service experience
  • Previous library work experience a plus
  • Familiarity with Library of Congress call number system, OskiCat, or Melvyl
  • Willingness to work during the academic year
Special Notes: 
  • May be asked to work at the other Engineering & Physical Sciences Libraries, including the Engineering Library, Chemistry Library, Earth Sciences & Map Library, and the Physics-Astronomy Library
