Job Information

Job Duties: 

Retrieve, process, and prepare for shipping various library materials (books, microforms, theses, etc.) to fulfill ILL requests from other institutions and Borrowing requests from UCB patrons according to circulation lending policies and procedures. Retrieve books and scan items from multiple libraries around campus. Search libraries for missing materials. Perform office tasks such as automated checkout, filing, scanning/photocopying, processing, counting statistics, etc. Retrieve rush requests from various library units on campus and process return of materials lent out. Deliver library materials to departmental offices around campus. Drive electric golf-cart when needed; valid driver's license required. 

Required Qualifications: 

This position is open immediately. The ideal candidate will continue working through Spring 2020 and potentially longer.

Focused, detail-oriented, efficient, and punctual. Ability to perform detailed work with high degree of accuracy required. Must be able to perform well in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with OskiCat and Melvyl preferred. Exhibit a strong work ethic, be able to work independently, and take initiative within a varying work flow. Able to assist other units when necessary. Must be able to lift/carry varying weights of books, and push loaded, heavy book trucks within the library. Must have a valid Driver's License to drive golf-cart on campus. Basic knowledge of the Library of Congress call number system, ability to search and locate library materials from the shelves. Speak and read English fluently.

Desired Qualifications: 

Effective oral/written communication skills; basic knowledge of other languages; knowledge of Doe/Main stacks and other libraries on campus; basic knowledge of Excel, Word, and other databases; ability to work well independently and within a diverse community.

Special Notes: 

This position is open immediately. The ideal candidate will continue working through Spring 2020 and potentially longer.

We have two positions open at this time. PLEASE NOTE: the hours available in this department are only during 9am-4:30pm, Monday - Friday. Student employees should be willing to commit to work during these hours and around class time. Students MUST be able to start training immediately and work through Spring 2020, if not longer. We require at least one week during winter break, either after finals OR before the new semester starts in early January 2019.
