Job Information:

The Bancroft Library is currently seeking a student desk monitor. This position is responsible for guarding university property, protecting people, preventing theft, violence, or infractions of rules. Security personnel enforce the Bancroft building and campus policies and California State laws applicable to libraries and museums. In addition, security workers provide directional/informational assistance to students, staff, faculty, researchers, visitors and monitoiring camera and alarm systems.

  • Perform opening and closing procedures.
  • Complete Daily Activity Report.
  • Report incidents/complaints; illegal, suspicious or criminal activity to your supervisor & complete an incident report form.
  • Enforce library security and campus code of conduct.
  • Perform Emergency Procedures during emergency situations.
  • Report building and safety issues.
  • Answer and transfer phone calls.
  • Enforce building entry and exit policy.
  • Patrol Museum for security & safety issues and building related issues (leaks, graffiti, etc.).
  • Deal with disruptive and difficult patrons entering the complex.
  • Monitor camera systems and review video for security investigations.
Required Qualifications: 

Work a minimum of 7.5 hours per week (at least two full shifts during the week).

Must be able to walk, stand, and sit for a minimum of 3 to 4 hours.

Basic PC computer knowledge (bmail and Microsoft Office).

Must be an active/enrolled UC Berkeley student.

Desired Qualifications: 

Experience with campus bConnected and Google Drive applications for preparing materials using documents, forms, and spreadsheets.

Previous university, library or museum security experience desired.

Demonstrated excellent customer service experience.

Team player.
