Job Information

Job Duties: 

HOURS

The student circulation assistants work 8-15 hours per week during the Earth Sciences and Map library’s operating hours, which are Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-7:00pm and Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm during the academic year. Intersession and summer hours are Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm.  Hours are dedicated to working a set schedule at the circulation desk and are determined by the student’s desired number of hours, availability, and the library’s coverage needs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Checks library materials in and out and performs other circulation functions
  • Answers basic reference questions at the circulation desk and on the phone
  • Assists patrons with using the library catalog and other online resources
  • Shelves books and maps, shelf reads, shifts, and performs searches and other functions to maintain library collection
  • Acts as security to observe library traffic
  • Assists library staff with special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Performs opening and closing procedures
Required Qualifications: 
  • Must be dependable, approachable, and self-motivated
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Ability to complete projects with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to carry 5-15 pound books, push full book carts, and carry large map folders
Desired Qualifications: 
  • Experience working in customer service
  • Knowledge of the Library of Congress call number system and library practices
  • Knowledge of database searching, using OskiCat and online systems
  • Be a quick learner and have a strong interest in assisting patrons with map questions
  • Availability to work throughout the summer break and intersessions

Must be available to work during summer and intersession breaks. First year-Junior students only please!
